"Now I Fell Ya" is one of Scarface’s most popular songs, real life long (7:35 min), this track is lyrically deep and illustrate life in da hood coming from his second solo album, The World is Yours. The album was released on August 17, 1993, by Rap-A-Lot Records. The album was not as acclaimed as his debut, Mr. Scarface Is Back, but sold strongly, breaking into the Top 10 on the Billboard 200 chart, and peaking at #1 on the R&B/hip hop album chart.
The lyrical beat behind "Now I Feel ya" is laid down over emotionally felt lyrics as Scarface talks about
his youth, his ghetto rites of passage, the importance of his family, becoming a father, and other life trials and tribulations.
This is true poetry, not many
rap songs today make you sit there and digest each and every lyric.
“That was a true story. It’s a very heartfelt record. That was a very difficult album to make because I was coming off the Geto Boys tour and I had met up with Craig Kellman and Lyor Cohen in Baltimore. I was recording my first album and Lyor was saying I can get some money. Keep in mind this was my first solo album, I’m 20-years-old. Lyor was like, ‘You can get $250-$300,000 dollars to do a solo album.’ I was like, ‘Huh?’ I did not go through with that. I should’ve did that instead.
“I recorded my first solo album and had some success with it. After that album, I wanted to get out of my deal. They were like, ‘Give us $2 million’ or some ridiculous shit like that. I was like, ‘Huh?’ If you want all this money, I had no idea I was worth all that. Well then just pay me what I’m worth.’
“But, contractually, what you sign for is what you sign for. I’m sure everybody knows how that story go if you sign a record contract. I don’t remember what the Geto Boys cut was, I think five percent or maybe seven of something. Back then we were glad to just put an album out.” Old school rap laid the blue print for new melinials, but for some reason they refused to take the lead on how to spin life hardships inside out and turn them into a lyrically positive story book.
